How do I wear that trend…bright eyeshadow

Jul 18, 2009 by

Ok, you’ve read the title and you might have considered not even reading this post. You may be thinking, “Bright eyeshadow? I don’t want to go around looking like a clown!”

Well stop that thinking right now. You know that I don’t recommend anything that would have you looking like a clown of any type. When people think about bright makeup of any kind, they often think of drawing attention to themselves or trying to be seen. While it is true that bright makeup will make you stand out, there are ways to wear it so that you stand out for all the right reasons.

If you don’t currently own any brightly colored eyeshadow, make a quick run to your drugstore and stop by the Wet N Wild area of the makeup aisle and find the brightest color that works best with your skin type. I would suggest going for a bright version of any colors you have at home. If you’re unsure about your skin type and choosing colors, check back for blog posts on those topics. Otherwise, if you’re fair skinned, go for a bright blue and if you have a darker complexion, go for a bright green.

Now that you have a bright color, go home and practice! Don’t just throw the color on and go out in public with it, take some time in front of your bathroom mirror to figure out the best way to wear this color. The great thing about eyeshadow is that you can wear a little or a lot. If you’re wary about the color, start small. Below is a link to post I wrote about how to apply eye shadow for every day wear. It talks about the best way to incorporate three colors. I would suggest you follow this video using neutral colors for the base color and the last color. Then use the bright color for the second color. Make sure you wipe off the brush before you blend and you will be all set to go!

Good luck and happy shadowing!

Thanks for the tip. I will suggest my wife to try this for sure because I think this will bring up her features.

I actually like to use bright eyeshadow for several reasons. First, it is different that what most women do. Second, it lightens my features (dark skin), and lastly, it is fun!!! I would recommend people to just give it a try.

I’m not convinced about that one… You say that bright colors are good for eye shadowing but I’m still thinking only about them to be invisible… I’m a little bit traditional about that and I think that darker colors are much more visible. But maybe I’ll just give it a try, after all it will cost me nothing.
