Get help with your skincare at myskin.com

I’ve always had sensitive skin. I remember running into issues whenever I used a skin care product that had perfume or dye in it. I’ve even had to switch to laundry detergent that is 100% free of dyes, perfumes and any other extras outside of the general cleaning agents.

My skin sensitivity has made me very diligent in researching skin care products but I often find it challenging to do research without actually trying things out. As you fellow sensitive ladies know, testing skin care products can be a dicey game when you have sensitive skin.

I was introduced to www.myskin.com by a fellow FABB Blogger and I was very pleased when I visited the site. I immediately signed up and did a search for something I could wash my face with because I’ve been having issues lately and I needed to make a change. The site led me to something that I’m using now and so far so good.

I’ve noticed that many people are clueless about how to properly care for their skin and oftentimes can’t afford a regular facial or regular visits to the dermatologist. I think this website is a great resource and it’s free to join.

Don’t worry, this isn’t a paid endorsement.  This is just a really cool site that has helped me with my skin care and I think more of us could use this type of help.  The site features a search engine where you can look for products based on your skin care needs. It also has member reviews so you get a realistic view of the product. Initially I was worried that it might be a website that was created to promote a certain brand of products, but it’s not.

I saw products that ranged in price from $3 to $50 and I’m sure there are more that didn’t match my particular search results.  I encourage you all to check out www.myskin.com. The site isn’t currently open to the public so I have a special invite code for Clueless Fashionista readers.

logo

This month is celebrated as the month of love and sexiness, it can be the simpliest of changes in your hair style that can create a mood most fitting.  Below are a few ways that will ensure your man will stop and take notice of you this month.

* If you are wearing your hair in its natural state (curly), this is the perfect time to make that appointment with your skilled stylist to get a silk press.  Men love hair that is silky and touchable!
* Try having your stylist give your hair some playful curls.  This almost always brings out the youthful appearance to a lady of a certain age!
* Have your stylist be creative with color pieces.  A hint of color in the crown or even in the bang can be sexy as well as romantic.
* For that special evening out on the town, have your stylist to softly pin your hair up. This can be achieved either with cascading curls or a soft spike.  Either way will expose your neckline, therefore ensuring instant romance!

How do I wear that trend…bright red lips

logo

This is a trend that I don’t have any direct experience with so I decided to share a video from the lovely folks over at About.com. If you’ve never checked out that site, it’s like an expert portal to a whole host of topics. In fact, you can subscribe to the different channels and receive email updates and everything. But before you go web surfing, take a moment and check out this video on how to wear a bright red lip. It’s fairly simple and I would suggest you follow these steps to keep your bright, red pout looking neat and clean.

Also, as fall is swiftly approaching, this video tutorial can be used for any bright, bold lip stick color. Don’t be afraid to brighten up your lips on smooth on a bold color. Just follow these tips to ensure that your lips stay clean and polished through out the day.

How do I wear that trend…thick, long eye lashes

logo

Hi there fellow Clueless Fashionistas!

I’ve been on a bit of an unplanned hiatus but I’m back now. As you can see, I’ve made some updates to the website. Let me know your thoughts. I’m working on making the site look cleaner and more streamlined. Ok, now back to the trends.

I don’t have long eye lashes or thick eye brows. As a kid, I would see people with long, thick lashes and feel envious. I’m not a hairy person (which is helpful when it comes to shaving my legs, but I digress) and I knew that I would never possess those lovely lashes. However, as an adult, I discovered fake lashes (quite some time after models and drag queens but better late than never). I put some on last year at Halloween. If you want to see the picture, visit my post, Halloween Follow Up.

Well it took some getting used to, but once I did, I relished in finally being able to enjoy thick, long eye lashes. Here are some ways to delve into this trend.

1. Wear them as a part of an outfit or costume. Halloween is coming up. If you take your new, long lashes out for a spin to a Halloween party, you won’t feel so odd wearing them.
2. Wear some of the shorter, more conservative lashes. You don’t have to go all out with the long, vampy lashes right away. Ease into them by getting some of the short ones first. If you go to Walmart or Target, check their makeup section, you should find some lashes in various lengths. Go for the shorties.
3. Wear them around the house. Choose a day when you have no intention of going out. Put on the lashes and wear them all day. By the end of the day, you should be at least slightly more used to them.

I hope these tips help. If you need more help, check out this post called Eyelashes! It has a tutorial on how to apply false lashes. If you take any pictures with your new lashes, please share them with me. I’d love to feature you rockin your lashes on Clueless Fashionista.

How do I wear that trend…bright eyeshadow

logo

Ok, you’ve read the title and you might have considered not even reading this post. You may be thinking, “Bright eyeshadow? I don’t want to go around looking like a clown!”

Well stop that thinking right now. You know that I don’t recommend anything that would have you looking like a clown of any type. When people think about bright makeup of any kind, they often think of drawing attention to themselves or trying to be seen. While it is true that bright makeup will make you stand out, there are ways to wear it so that you stand out for all the right reasons.

If you don’t currently own any brightly colored eyeshadow, make a quick run to your drugstore and stop by the Wet N Wild area of the makeup aisle and find the brightest color that works best with your skin type. I would suggest going for a bright version of any colors you have at home. If you’re unsure about your skin type and choosing colors, check back for blog posts on those topics. Otherwise, if you’re fair skinned, go for a bright blue and if you have a darker complexion, go for a bright green.

Now that you have a bright color, go home and practice! Don’t just throw the color on and go out in public with it, take some time in front of your bathroom mirror to figure out the best way to wear this color. The great thing about eyeshadow is that you can wear a little or a lot. If you’re wary about the color, start small. Below is a link to post I wrote about how to apply eye shadow for every day wear. It talks about the best way to incorporate three colors. I would suggest you follow this video using neutral colors for the base color and the last color. Then use the bright color for the second color. Make sure you wipe off the brush before you blend and you will be all set to go!

Good luck and happy shadowing!

How do I wear that trend…lilac eyeshadow

logo

Purple is one of the hot colors right now. It’s been hot since last fall. I saw it everywhere when I visited Italy, especially Milan. If you want to participate in the purple trend this summer, one great way is by wearing lilac eyeshadow. By definition, lilac is a light purplish color. I know some of you may be afraid to try out light colored eye shadow. I used to be. I would summon up visions of the 70′s when women wore freakishly light eye makeup and not want to attempt that look myself. But I’ve learned that light colored eye color can be a nice hint of color to compliment your eyes. If you want to experiment with lilac eyeshadow, here is a video showing you how to apply it. It’s a video by Makeup Geek. She refers to primer, which I am a strong supporter of. I currently use Bare Escentuals Eye Primer, which works wonders. She is also using loose shadow, which is a bit more advanced, but the technique is the same for shadow in the pot as well.

Enjoy the video and even if you don’t wear lilac eyeshadow, I implore you to try wearing eye shadow in general. It’s a great way to enhance your eyes and add a new dimension to your look.

Make sure you visit her website at www.makeupgeek.com for more makeup tutorials.

How do I wear that trend…soft smokey eye

logo

The smokey eye has been popular for quite some time. It does add quite the sexy allure when your eyes are properly smoked. Typically it’s a look saved for a more high glam look when you’re going out on the town or to a formal event. With the spring makeup trends, it’s become something that can be worn in other situations. By making the smokey eye, soft, you can put it on during the day without it being overwhelming. This is great for us ladies that may be intimidated by the smokey eye thinking it’s too dramatic. Rather than doing the smokey eye with dark colors like plums, black and browns, make it softer by using grays, taupe and pinks. You can do it using the softer colors that are ideal for the warmer months. I’ve already posted an instructional video showing you how to do a smokey eye. Check out the post. It’s very helpful. I’ve done a smokey eye using it and it turned out nicely.

Smoke Those Eyes!

So to recap. Take a look at the video. Instead of using dark colors, use lighter softer colors and practice smoking your eye! I’d love to receive some pictures of successful soft smokey eyes. Please share!

How do I wear that trend…nude and pale lip color

logo

In keeping up with the current makeup trend of nude makeup, nude and pale lip color is a great way to top off a nude face. The easiest way to wear a nude or pale lip color is to wear a lip gloss. Typically pale lip glosses go on shiny with just a hint of color. If you’ve never experimented with the pale lip color before, I would suggest visiting the local drug store and picking up some Wet N’ Wild or other low cost makeup. You could also order some from www.elf.com.

The secret to a nude lip is to wear it lightly. Don’t apply it too heavily. It won’t look like darker colors when you put it on so if you’re used to wearing dark lipstick, it may take some getting used to. Once you master the nude lip color, you will have a wider variety of looks at your disposal.

How do I wear that trend…soft blush

logo

Another big trend for spring/summer right now is soft makeup. One way to achieve that look while actually wearing makeup is by using blush. I am a huge fan of brushing on some blush in addition to some lipgloss to make your face glow. In fact, blush is something I like to put on when I’m feeling washed out or tired and that little bit of color on my cheeks wakes me right up. Or at least it makes me look like I’m awake. For blush basics, check out my post, Blushing beauties!

So you can imagine how excited I was to see that soft blush was a makeup trend for spring/summer. You may be wondering how to do soft blush. It’s quite simple. Go for lighter blush colors like pinks, peaches and rose reds rather than the stronger blushes like dark reds. The great thing about lighter blush colors is that it’s a lot harder to “mess it up” so you makeup newbies can take this trend and venture into the blush territory.

Happy blushing!
