I recently brought, on a whim, a really gorgeous sheer dress off of Ebay. Now, I don’t know how to wear it or what to wear under it. It’s really pretty, I’d hate for it to just hang in my closet. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Any ideas you have are appreciated. I’ve already read your posting on sheer dresses, but can’t seem to visualize what might go with this one.
Thanks for your help!
Ooooh, I simply love these Style Q&A posts! When I clicked on this dress, I was struck by how pretty it was and I agree that it shouldn’t simply sit in the closet. Immediately, I had a thought but first, kudos to you for finding such a great deal on ebay! Ebay is a wonderful place to find well made pieces at a great cost.
You could wear this dress with a solid color shift dress underneath it. This would be a great way to add some pizazz to a basic dress. If you’re unsure exactly what a shift dress is, here are some pictures:

Great, red shift dress from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-402994/Dress-code--key-shapes-new-season.html
If you’re feeling adventurous, you could wear it with a basic tank top and a short skirt as well. I would suggest going for rich colors like red, black, orange, green or blue rather than lighter colors like tan, cream or white. This dress has such a wonderful pattern that a rich color underneath would really make the pattern pop.
I would LOVE to see pictures of you rocking this super cute sheer dress! If you want to share your look with the Clueless Fashionista readers, send a picture to info at cluelessfashionista dot com and I’ll do a follow up post.
And, please keep the style questions coming! I really enjoy giving my tips on how to wear different pieces of clothing. Shopping in your closet can be lots of fun sometimes.
Enjoy the latest installment of the Ladies Let’s Talk series where I discuss shapewear. While I’m not a huge fan of it, mainly because it’s restrictive, I will wear it in situations where it is necessary to improve my overall look. Don’t be afraid of shapewear!
Hi there! I wanted to share a great video with you that I found on youtube. It’s a really short video that gives some great tips on how to walk in heels. Now, it’s not for beginners but if you wear heels regularly or on occasion and want to look more graceful and fluid, this video can help with that.
As a shoe fanatic who prefers heels to flats, I made it a point to learn how to walk properly in heels of varying heights. When you get a new pair of heels, do a few practice runs around the house so you can get used to the shoe. That way, when you step out you can look and walk fabulously!
One day I saw a woman wearing a great outfit. I was waiting for an opportunity to compliment her on it when I noticed her bending over to pick something up and saw her underwear when her shirt lifted up. I was immediately saddened and decided not to compliment her on the great outfit. After seeing that, I was inspired to create the above video. I hope you can benefit from the insight I provided and that you branch out and try some of the different types of underwear available.
I don’t want to see any more great outfits ruined by wearing the improper underwear. I know I mentioned too large underwear in the video but this goes for underwear that is too small as well as the much maligned visible panty line or VPL as some people call it.
I hope you enjoy the talk!
Well it appears that earrings are face shape specific just like everything else. Who knew?
Since I just learned something new, I want to share it with you. I found this great article on AOL Shopping that gives insight into the different face shapes and the best earrings to wear. I don’t think these are hard and fast rules but it’s a great guide, especially for you ladies who are just now delving into the wonderful world of accessories.
Check it out here and if you have more specific questions, please feel free to ask in the comments.
Enjoyed the fashion pics you provide. Very helpful. Love the tips! Could you provide some pics of an outfit for zebra-print shoes and also for electric-blue suede shoes? Just need more ideas for outfits…or else the shoes won’t get worn that much. thanks!
I simply love getting style and fashion questions. This is a great one I just got about shoes and I will admit that zebra print shoes and electric blue suede shoes can definitely pose an outfit challenge. I hope these tips help you get more use out of your daringly patterned and colored shoes!
Let’s start with zebra print shoes. Below is a picture of a great pair of Carlos by Carlos Santana zebra print sandals. His shoes are always amazing and you can get them at DSW as well as by clicking this link www.shoes.com
If you want to wear zebra print shoes, it’s best to go with a simple outfit and let the shoes be your statement piece and believe me, zebra print shoes will definitely make a statement! Here are some ways to work these into your wardrobe:
1. LBD or little black dress.
2. A cute white dress
3. A cute white shirt and jeans
4. A cute red dress or a red shirt and jeans
If you’re more daring, you can wear these with some great tan khaki shorts and a summery white shirt.
The next thing I want to offer suggestions for are the electric blue suede shoes. This is more of a challenge, but it can definitely be done. Below is a picture of some very cute electric blue suede pumps. These aren’t as easy to find in stores, but if you do a search online, you can definitely find some.

If you own a pair of electric blue suede shoes, simplicity is definitely the way to go in terms of your outfit. These shoes are going to stand out no matter what you wear so let these shoes work! Below are some outfits that would go well with these show stoppers.
1. White t-shirt and dark jeans
2. Black shirt and dark jeans
3. Little black dress or LBD
There are some other ways to incorporate these shoes but they may be more for the daring. For example, if you have a great black and white print dress, the electric blue suede shoes would definitely make the dress pop.
I would love to see pictures if any of you have zebra print or electric blue suede shoes and how you incorporate them into your outfits. Remember, no matter what you wear, do it with confidence!
Another summer issue is women wearing fabulous sandals and footwear that are clearly too small. If the shoes are cute but the fit is wrong or you can’t walk in them, no one is going to notice the shoes.
Since it’s summer and people are wearing less, I wanted to address the belly exposure issue. This applies to wearing cropped tops, half shirts and shirts that don’t completely cover your stomach. Please make full use of your full length mirror!
I have never been a fan of wearing dresses. Aside from my general disdain at having to be careful when wearing something other than pants or shorts, I have the hardest time finding dresses that properly fit my shape. I have a large bust so finding dresses that fit my bust area and the rest of me can be a challenge.
With this in mind, I just decided not to wear dresses any more to solve the problem. However, last summer with the increased popularity of the maxi dress, I decided to give them a try and now I’m sold. I even wrote a post about it on the shopittome blog www.blog.shopittome.com/2009/07/23/take-a-maxi-dress-from-summer-to-fall While I don’t have as many dresses as I would like, I do have many more than I have since my mom was buying my clothes when I was a kid. The great thing about dresses is that they’re one piece. You put it on and viola, you’re dressed. All you need to worry about is shoes and possible accessories and you’re ready to roll.
There are some great dresses out there in wonderful patterns and colors and I wanted to share some with you along with a picture of me in one of my dresses. I want you all to go out and get an easy, breezy dress to wear for the summer. They’re not all expensive either. You can check out Walmart, Target or my favorite, Dots and find a dress for under $30.
This is a great example of a floral print that’s not too overwhelming and will look great on almost anyone.
This is a cute maxi dress in a great print that will make you stand out in a good way.
Vertical stripes is very universally flattering.
This is me in one of my wonderfully flowing maxi dresses. it’s like wearing pajamas and the print is great but not too overwhelming.
Don’t be afraid of a great printed dress. I would love to get pictures of you wearing your great summer dresses. Share them with me and I will feature them on an upcoming blog post. I was inspired to write this post by a great blog that has more great dresses on it. Check it out www.sapphirewhispermagazine.blogspot.com/2010/05/spring-fever.html and enjoy!
Okay ladies, I’ve been noticing a disturbing trend lately. For some reason, people are finding it acceptable to go out in public with pajamas on. Now they’re not flannel pajamas or anything like a night gown, however, this just doesn’t look good.
When you go out in public, you should seek to represent yourself the best way possible. This doesn’t mean you need to have full make-up and heels on everyday. It does mean that you should be neat and wearing outdoor clothes.
Here is a picture of the types of pajamas that I see most often. I’ve seen them every where from the mall to the grocery store. I understand that sometimes you may not feel like getting all dolled up to just run to the store for a quick errand. But the same effort it takes to put on some pajama pants is the same effort it takes to put on some comfortable jeans.
Please, ladies, let’s stop wearing pajamas in public. No matter how cute they are, they should be worn in the house and not outside.
