New shopping site-Wheretogetit

I know one of my biggest shopping issues is finding items that I like in the store or online boutique. Sometimes I’ll be browsing through a magazine or watching television and I’ll see a cute piece that I’d like to own but I have no clue where to start looking. I found out about this really cool website where you can post a picture of an item that you covet and people can give suggestions on where to get it.

The name of the website is www.wheretoget.it and it’s a great resource. When you create a profile, you can post requests and answer the requests of others. You will also get points as you post and respond to requests that you’ll be able to use towards cool things in the future. The website is international so you’ll see things from other countries. Also, the great thing is that when people post suggestions on where you can get your item, they post a variety of price points. Here’s a screen shot of what it looks like when an item is posted and people post suggestions:

See how you have two different suggestions, one is $56 and the other is 300 pounds, which is probably more like $600 or so. I encourage you to incorporate this into your shopping arsenal. Spring is here and it is time to tuck those winter clothes away and brighten up your closet!

For more information and to sign up, visit www.wheretoget.it or click any of the pictures in this post.

Back to Basics: Day to Night Makeup

Feb 9, 2011 by

This is something I have a big problem with. I’m not very good when it comes to taking my daytime makeup into the night. Usually, I take the easy way out and put on a bronzer in the morning and touch up my lip gloss when I head to my evening outing. I would love to be able to step up my makeup game for evening events so I found this great youtube video where this lovely lady with a super cool accent gives some good day to night makeup tips. Plus, she shares what she carries in her purse to make the transition even easier. While she shares some great brands, what’s more important are the items and how she uses them. Enjoy the video and if you have additional questions you’d like me to cover in upcoming “Back to Basics” segments, please add a comment.

Curly/straight hair tips from Curlformers

Sep 22, 2010 by

Side note: Curlformers is a set of hair tools that make your hair nice and curly. They look really cool. They creators of Curlformers have some great tips on how to get great curls or great straight locks. Enjoy!

HOW TO CREATE SOFT BOUNCY CURLS

If your hair is damaged, weak and brittle you won’t be able to do anything with it let alone create glossy curls. So first up, make sure your hair is in great condition by using the best quality shampoo, conditioner and treatment you can afford. Once it’s looking healthy, shiny and manageable, soft curly hair is just a click away with Curlformers! Curlformers are creating ripples around the world as wannabe-curly-fashionistas are discovering the variety of sexy spirals, glossy curls and tousled waves they can achieve – without a damaging heat styling iron in sight! They can be used on all hair types and you can choose from a variety of lengths and widths, depending on the look you want to achieve. The website is packed with helpful hints and tips, tutorials and step-by-step demo videos to ensure you get the best from your Curlformers. They’re not a quick fix; you have to apply them to damp hair and either leave to dry naturally or blast with a hairdryer (a soft hood hairdryer attachment helps to speed up the process), but they’re SO versatile and ideal if you want to avoid using damaging straightening irons. You can apply to a full head for a cascade of curls, or at random for texture.

If you would prefer to use straightening irons, always apply them to hair that has been freshly washed with moisture-rich products and apply the best thermal protector you can afford. Kevin Murphy does a complete line called Protection, which contains exclusive technology and wattle seed extracts from the Australian rain forest to protect hair from heat styling damage. Take your pick from Protection Wash and Rinse, Heated Defense and Damage Manager!

THE ALTERNATIVE TO ‘FRAZZLED’ STRAIGHT!

If you value your hair but you’re addicted to ‘straight’ there are a number of professional salons offering a new keratin smoothing treatment or ‘Brazilian blow dry’ to help you to achieve sleek, shiny locks. It won’t make your hair poker straight but will infuse it with super-conditioning ingredients that make it easier to manage and blow dry into a smooth, glossy style. Although they might sound expensive – from £150 upwards depending on the length or your hair – the results will last from between 2 – 4 months, dissipating gradually with washing, so it’s a worthwhile investment and the condition of your hair improves every time you have one! The best around is La Brasiliana, which contains nourishing keratin for strength and collagen for elasticity.

I hope some of these straight and curly hair tips help you perk up your hair situation. If you decide to take some of these tips, please share pictures! Send them to me at info at cluelessfashionista dot com.

Hair products that will get you through the summer heat-by Mandrill Hardge

Jul 6, 2010 by

I have been receiving emails and phone calls asking about what products to use in this extreme heat. So I’ve decided that this months beauty blog will be about 3 of my favorite product lines. Try them out and be sure to email me with your findings!!

* (1) Elucence Shampoo and Conditioner line ~ This product is what I use on all my clients whether they are relaxed or natural. The products are enriched with Biotin, which aids in the growth of the hair. Also, this line is 92% natural, which is always a plus! They leave the hair feeling light with no product buildup or residue. Available at select salons. *In Atlanta, Attitudes by Moe Hair Studio 404-541-1221*. If you don’t live in Atlanta or near Attitudes by Moe, visit their website at www.elucence.com to find a retailer near you.

* (2) Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding ~ This is a MUST have if you are all natural, meaning no relaxer left on ends of hair. The product is formulated to immediately lock in your natural curl pattern without weighing the hair down or making hair feel “juicy”. I highly recommend that you take this product along with you on vacations or cruises, especially if water is going to be involved! Available either online at www.missjessies.com or at select Target retail stores.

* (3) Mixed Chicks Products ~ This product is especially useful with all weaving clients. If you have chosen to wear extensions this summer, then you will want to have this line in your beauty kit. The line includes shampoos, conditioners and styling aids that will keep your extensions in the best possible condition. It is especially excellent on Virgin Indian Remy or Natural Wave style extensions. Available either online at www.mixedchicks.net or at select Salon retailers.

These are simply my recommendations based on client reviews as well as my personal findings of products I’ve used on my clients. You may email me your reviews at info@mandrillhardge.com. Have a safe and sexy Summer!!

How to wear makeup with glasses

Jun 29, 2010 by

I came across this great video on how to wear makeup when you wear glasses so that the makeup still pops. I really enjoyed the video and the tips are very easy to follow. If you don’t have those specific products or your skin tone doesn’t go well with the color palette mentioned, use ones that do. I’m going to give these tips a try myself so make sure you scroll down and check out my picture.

I tried this out. The instructions were fairly easy to follow. It did take some steady hands to do the cat eye, but I think it came together well for my first time.

Here is the look without my glasses.

I used a gray shadow as a base and a dark turquoise on the sides of my eye with a purple right in the crease like the video. I used the Maybelline Eye Studio cream liner in charcoal and Loreal Lash Architect Mascara, which I reviewed here http://cluelessfashionista.com/beauty/beauty-product-test-driveloreal-lash-architect-mascara.html

.

This is how it looked with my glasses on.
