GW Boutique by Thread Conscious

The other day I was browsing around the very cute Thread Conscious blog. I’ve posted articles from there here in the past but I hadn’t visited in a while so I stopped by to see what was happening with the fabulous Nik who writes Thread Conscious. I initially noticed that she’s been busy posting lots of great fashion related things going on in Dallas, TX but then I saw a post mentioning the GW Boutique. I was intrigued because as I read the post, I noticed that the GW stood for Goodwill.

I know I haven’t done a lot on thrifting here aside from this video where I showed you my recent purse purchases, but it is a great way to add to your wardrobe without spending much money. I do plan on doing more in the future so stay tuned.

But I digress…

I was so interested in this GW Boutique that I searched Thread Conscious for other posts that gave more detail and I found one. Apparently, Goodwill Industries has decided to create a retail shopping experience where you get thrift store prices but in an environment that feels less like thrifting and more like boutique shopping. This looks fabulous! I immediately pulled up the website and was saddened to see that there is only one GW Boutique right now, in Keller, Texas. So if any of you guys are in that area, I suggest you check it out but before you do, visit these posts on Thread Conscious and get some insight into what to expect.

Update: GW Boutique 2011

And a note to the folks over at Goodwill Industries, please look into putting more of the boutiques in other cities. *cough* Atlanta…Just saying…

Fashion for your home

Mar 28, 2011 by

I know I typically discuss clothes, makeup and occasionally hair but many stylish people also have very stylish homes. I recently realized that the same approach I am taking to improving my personal look can work for changing my design style. I currently don’t have a design style but I’d like to. So as I go on my journey to learn more about home decor, I’m going to share that info with you as well. This video was shot for one of my other endeavors, Friday Girl TV. I am the Executive Producer of the show, which is a lifestyle talk show that gives tips and trips for how women can become more chic. We recently shot a segment at Bloomingdale’s in Lenox Square Mall featuring floral designer and stylist, Christina Loucks showing the show’s host, October Rose how to do a spring table scape using the new Diane von Furstenberg Home Collection.

This is a fabulous collection by the iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg offered exclusively at Bloomingdale’s so it’s more on the high end side but Christina offers some great tips on how you can use items you may have lying around your house or outside your house. I hope this offers some inspiration for you to update your own dining area or at least start thinking about it in a different way. Enjoy!

2011 Spring Trend Update

Mar 26, 2011 by

Alas, it is time for the biannual trend report which will be followed by the “How do I wear that trend” series. There are some very cool trends this spring that I think will be easy to work into your wardrobe. You ready? Here they go.

http://look-of-the-day.fabsugar.com/Street-Style-All-White-Outfit-8823338

1. White with neutrals

-This is a twist on the all white trend that often pops up in the spring. If you’re not a fan of wearing lots of white (like yours truly), then you can do this trend by wearing mainly white with a touch of neutral to add some color to your outfit.

2. Big, bright floral prints

-I am interested to try this trend myself. I’m not a fan of floral prints, but these large prints are a lot less frilly and girly and much more bold.

3. Menswear inspired pieces

-This has been a trend for the past few seasons and it is being carried over into Spring. Since it is holding strong, I thought it was time to delve into it. It’s basically taking tailored pieces that look like menswear (slacks, jackets, buttoned down shirts, etc) and incorporating them into your outfits.

4. Shorts

-I know this may seem like a no-brainer but there are many of you who cease to wear shorts after a certain point in your life. Some women do it as they age and others do it if they gain weight. However, there are so many varieties of shorts out there that we all can do this trend and look great.

5. Wedge shoes

-I am a big fan of wedges. They’re an easy way to wear heels without the balance issues that can happen with skinny heels. Plus, they tend to be comfortable and cute.

6. Big bangles

-This is an easy trend because bangles are everywhere. I’ve seen them at different price points and different colors. I always feel a touch more stylish when I accent my outfit with a great pair of bangles.

Stay tuned for tips on how to wear each of these trends!

New shopping site-Wheretogetit

New shopping site-Wheretogetit

I know one of my biggest shopping issues is finding items that I like in the store or online boutique. Sometimes I’ll be browsing through a magazine or watching television and I’ll see a cute piece that I’d like to own but I have no clue where to start looking. I found out about this really cool website where you can post a picture of an item that you covet and people can give suggestions on where to get it.

The name of the website is www.wheretoget.it and it’s a great resource. When you create a profile, you can post requests and answer the requests of others. You will also get points as you post and respond to requests that you’ll be able to use towards cool things in the future. The website is international so you’ll see things from other countries. Also, the great thing is that when people post suggestions on where you can get your item, they post a variety of price points. Here’s a screen shot of what it looks like when an item is posted and people post suggestions:

See how you have two different suggestions, one is $56 and the other is 300 pounds, which is probably more like $600 or so. I encourage you to incorporate this into your shopping arsenal. Spring is here and it is time to tuck those winter clothes away and brighten up your closet!

For more information and to sign up, visit www.wheretoget.it or click any of the pictures in this post.

Back to Basics: The importance of accessories

Mar 5, 2011 by

Typically when I see someone doing accessories wrong it’s either one or two things. Either the person is under accessorized or they’re over accessorized. I am a big fan of accessories because if done right, they can really amp up your outfit. Now you may be wondering why accessories are so important.

Have you ever seen someone all dressed up in a fabulous black dress with a great pair of black shoes and a cute little black purse? Sounds cute, right?

Well imagine that same person with a pair of sparkly heels on along with a pair of sparkly earrings and a necklace with a solitaire diamond in it. Sounds sophisticated, right?

Accessories can take an outfit from cute to fabulous. If you’re unsure about how to wear them, start with one piece in a bold color. I found a great cubic zirconia earring set where they come in a variety of colors. It wasn’t very expensive (less than $30) and when I wear them, I’ll often put on a pair that is in a different color family from what I’m wearing. For example, if I’m wearing a red shirt, I’ll put on the pink earrings. Or if I’m wearing a black shirt, I’ll put on the light purple ones.

I know this may seem a bit on the basic side, but once you’re comfortable experimenting with the color of one accessory, you will begin to branch out with more pieces and feel more confident adding them to your outfits.

If you have a question about an outfit and what kind of accessories you should consider for it, please don’t hesitate to contact me at info [at] cluelessfashionista [dot] com. Send a picture of the outfit (you can be wearing it or it can be on a hanger) along with the question so I can keep the color in mind.
