Shoe Candy-Big Event Sandal by Kenneth Cole

Mar 2, 2011 by

Welcome to the latest addition to the Clueless Fashionista features, Shoe Treat!

I am a big fan of shoes…ok, let me be honest here. I am a shoe fanatic! Growing up, I wasn’t very much into shoes at all. I mainly wore tennis shoes and made sure I had one black pair and one white pair for proper accessorizing, you know.

Well, fast forward several years and I now own quite a few pairs of shoes in a variety of colors. I still only own two pair of tennis shoes but I barely wear them. I tend to lean more towards heels and boots in the winter and wedges, pumps and flip flops in the summer.

So with my new shoe fetish in mind, I wanted to do a special feature and highlight fabulous shoes that won’t break your budget. So, here is the first contender!

These sandals by Kenneth Cole are very cute! Plus, they’re a great neutral. You could wear these with anything from jeans to shorts to that cute sundress you’ve tucked away for the warmer months. Plus, at $59, all of those possibilities for wear make them a great value. You can get them Piperlime. If you’re looking for a go to neutral to wear all spring and summer, these would be wonderful for that.

Back to Basics: Heels 101

Feb 21, 2011 by

I am a big fan of high heels. I’ve always wished I were at least 5’7 and since I fall two inches short of that, I have always looked for ways to be taller. When I first started wearing heels, I started small with one to two inches and chunky ones but it didn’t take me long to graduate to three and then four and five inch heels. Currently, my highest heel is about 5 and a half inches, possibly 6. Here are some quick tips on how you can start building your heel wardrobe if you want to wear some of the popular, super high heels.

1. Start small. If you routinely wear flats or kitten heels, you shouldn’t jump right into a pair of 6 inch stilettos. Move up gradually. If you have never worn heels before, try out some 2 inch ones. If you typically wear low heels and want to upgrade, move to 3 inches. The key to wearing heels is balance. Balance is a learned skill and will develop over time.

2. Practice, practice, practice! There is nothing worse than seeing a woman out wearing a fabulous pair of heels walking poorly. Even if you’re a heels veteran, you should do a practice run around your house to get comfortable in your heels before you head out into the world.

3. Be realistic. When you try on your shoes in the store, if you simply cannot walk in them, don’t get them. Go lower or chunkier in your heel.

Previously, I posted a great video that gave tips on walking in heels. Here’s a link to it: Walking in Heels. I also found a cool video that gives some good tips on walking in heels. It’s a bit campy but there are a few good tips in it. Also, it’s an international video so the voice over in it references heel height in cm rather than in. For clarification, 10 cm=3.94 in. I hope these are helpful. How to Walk in High Heels

Makeup Disposal-It’s important. Do it!

Feb 16, 2011 by

I am a big fan of makeup. I think it’s a great way to highlight your best features and really do a lot to punch up your overall look. However, makeup does not last forever. I understand that if you don’t wear a lot of makeup it can last for a long time, but that doesn’t mean you should keep using it for years. Makeup is a lot like food. It has an expiration date. While it may not get moldy, it can still go bad and cause negative health issues. But I also realize that many people have no idea how long certain types of makeup last.

I found a great and easy to understand article on bellasugar that breaks it all down. Here’s a short summary of some of the basics:

Mascara should be thrown out every three months
Foundation should be thrown out after a year
Eyeliner should be thrown out after 18 months
Lipstick/lip gloss should be thrown out after 18 months
Nail polish should be thrown out after a year

I like to apply these rules to the first use of the product but if you’ve owned some mascara for several years, you may want to keep an eye on it to make sure it’s still suitable for use. If it starts to irritate your eyes or smells funny, you should throw it out. Here’s a link to the full article: BellaSugar-When to throw away makeup.

Back to Basics: Day to Night Makeup

Feb 9, 2011 by

This is something I have a big problem with. I’m not very good when it comes to taking my daytime makeup into the night. Usually, I take the easy way out and put on a bronzer in the morning and touch up my lip gloss when I head to my evening outing. I would love to be able to step up my makeup game for evening events so I found this great youtube video where this lovely lady with a super cool accent gives some good day to night makeup tips. Plus, she shares what she carries in her purse to make the transition even easier. While she shares some great brands, what’s more important are the items and how she uses them. Enjoy the video and if you have additional questions you’d like me to cover in upcoming “Back to Basics” segments, please add a comment.

Thrifting-Purses

Feb 5, 2011 by

Recently, I went on an impromptu thrifting outing with some fabulous ladies. I’m not a serious thrifter but I can definitely attest to the great bargains someone can come across at a thrift store. In my most recent trip, I got three cool purses and spent about $9 for all of them. Here’s a short video I did about my experience and to show off my purchases. Enjoy!

Thanks to my fabulous thrifting companions who suggested the outing:

Alexis, a lifestyle hair blogger at http://curlscoilsandkinks.com

Back to Basics: The Five Minute Face

Feb 2, 2011 by

One of the main reasons I hear women give for not wearing makeup is a lack of time. It doesn’t take me much more than 5 minutes to do my daily face so I wanted to find a video of a woman applying her makeup in five minutes. Now this doesn’t mean she’s doing a full glam face with false lashes and all that. This is an everyday look that will punch up your look and make you look more polished overall. I came across quite a few videos and here is one of them. This is a very informal video. The lady, named Stacey, is doing her own makeup and she offers some great tips during the process.

See, that’s not too hard and she looks really natural without taking an hour. Makeup is supposed to highlight your features so it doesn’t have to take a long time to apply and look great. One thing I suggest you may want to skip if you’re a newbie is the eyelash curling portion. It’s not too hard to do but if you’ve never done it before, it will slow down your five minute face. Let me know if you have any questions about what was done in this video or if you want more tips on how to do a quick every day face.
