Boutique Spotlight: Runway Rundown

Apr 19, 2011 by

This is a different type of Boutique Spotlight. Rather than highlighting an actual boutique, I want to feature this really cool website called Runway Rundown. This site helps you find those runway looks at more realistic prices. Since many of us aren’t lucky enough to be able to attend fashion shows and choose items right off the runway, Runway Rundown helps you create those looks yourself. Kimberly Hazle, the owner of Runway Rundown responded to the Clueless Glam Libs and shared some great insight about fashion and creativity.

What inspired the creation of Runway Rundown? I had a realization that life would be much more enjoyable if I did what I loved. From that day forward my partner and I started brainstorming ways for us to bring our interests and talents together and Runway Rundown was born.
What is one tip you would give to an up and coming designer? Don’t lose site of your vision. That’s another reason why Runway Rundown’s content is as specific as it is. We feature the designer look straight from the runway with the designer’s original inspiration featured. I’ve found that once clothes leave the runway the looks get chopped up for editorials and celebrity styling. My advice would be to keep with what inspires you and don’t loose that amongst a sea of designers vying for the top of the contemporary market.

How do I wear that trend…white with neutrals

Apr 16, 2011 by

For the record, I am not a fan of wearing all white. It’s largely because I can never seem to keep my white clothes clean when I’m wearing them. I always find a way to drop something on me or rub up against something that leaves my crisp, white piece of clothing dirty. So I became anti-white clothes. I rarely wear white shirts and don’t own any white pants. I have one white denim skirt that I’ve had for several years and have worn it maybe three times.

It’s a problem, I know.

However, a great looking white outfit can really make you pop in the summer. For some reason, a crisp, white outfit can really make your skin glow even if you haven’t had a chance to visit the beach. So I invite all of you to try out this wonderful trend of wearing white with neutrals. It’s a great way to turn a neutral into a pop of color and break up the white some. I like it and I think I’m going to give it a try this summer.

You can also make this trend work for you. If you aren’t comfortable wearing all white, you can wear a lot of white with a neutral or pastel piece. For example, wear a white t-shirt with khaki shorts and cute white sandals. Your accessories can be white as well. This way you still have the effect of wearing white but the khaki shorts tones it down some.

I would love to see your white and neutral outfits. Please don’t hesitate to share pictures. You can send them to info {at} cluelessfashionista {dot} com.

Back to Basics: Wearing makeup to compliment, not hide

Apr 7, 2011 by

About six months ago, I posted an installment of the Ladies Let’s Talk series about wearing too much makeup. I have been inspired to touch on this topic again but in a slightly different way.

Yes, there is a type of makeup called concealer and you can use makeup to cover things up. However, the main purpose of wearing it is to play up your best features. If you haven’t already, take a minute to look at your face in a mirror. You want to assess your face and figure out the features you like the best.

Do this now. I’ll wait.

Done? OK, good. This short exercise is designed to make you look at yourself and pick out things you like rather than focusing on the things you’d like to change. You should have chosen at least one or two features that you like best. Now you can look for makeup to highlight those areas.

For example, I like my eyes so I always wear mascara and a touch of eyeliner. When I’m jazzing things up, I’ll put on eye shadow and darken my mascara. Since I want people to notice my eyes, I will do a clear or light gloss on my lips so the attention goes to my eyes. I don’t do a lot, but even a little makes a difference.

Don’t look at makeup as a way to hide yourself. Look at it as a way to make you stand out in the best way possible. Here’s the previous post I wrote which gives some more practical tips as well as links you back to previous instructional posts.

What do you consider your best feature? How do you highlight that feature? I’d love to hear your personal tips!

GW Boutique by Thread Conscious

GW Boutique by Thread Conscious

The other day I was browsing around the very cute Thread Conscious blog. I’ve posted articles from there here in the past but I hadn’t visited in a while so I stopped by to see what was happening with the fabulous Nik who writes Thread Conscious. I initially noticed that she’s been busy posting lots of great fashion related things going on in Dallas, TX but then I saw a post mentioning the GW Boutique. I was intrigued because as I read the post, I noticed that the GW stood for Goodwill.

I know I haven’t done a lot on thrifting here aside from this video where I showed you my recent purse purchases, but it is a great way to add to your wardrobe without spending much money. I do plan on doing more in the future so stay tuned.

But I digress…

I was so interested in this GW Boutique that I searched Thread Conscious for other posts that gave more detail and I found one. Apparently, Goodwill Industries has decided to create a retail shopping experience where you get thrift store prices but in an environment that feels less like thrifting and more like boutique shopping. This looks fabulous! I immediately pulled up the website and was saddened to see that there is only one GW Boutique right now, in Keller, Texas. So if any of you guys are in that area, I suggest you check it out but before you do, visit these posts on Thread Conscious and get some insight into what to expect.

Update: GW Boutique 2011

And a note to the folks over at Goodwill Industries, please look into putting more of the boutiques in other cities. *cough* Atlanta…Just saying…

Fashion for your home

Mar 28, 2011 by

I know I typically discuss clothes, makeup and occasionally hair but many stylish people also have very stylish homes. I recently realized that the same approach I am taking to improving my personal look can work for changing my design style. I currently don’t have a design style but I’d like to. So as I go on my journey to learn more about home decor, I’m going to share that info with you as well. This video was shot for one of my other endeavors, Friday Girl TV. I am the Executive Producer of the show, which is a lifestyle talk show that gives tips and trips for how women can become more chic. We recently shot a segment at Bloomingdale’s in Lenox Square Mall featuring floral designer and stylist, Christina Loucks showing the show’s host, October Rose how to do a spring table scape using the new Diane von Furstenberg Home Collection.

This is a fabulous collection by the iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg offered exclusively at Bloomingdale’s so it’s more on the high end side but Christina offers some great tips on how you can use items you may have lying around your house or outside your house. I hope this offers some inspiration for you to update your own dining area or at least start thinking about it in a different way. Enjoy!

2011 Spring Trend Update

Mar 26, 2011 by

Alas, it is time for the biannual trend report which will be followed by the “How do I wear that trend” series. There are some very cool trends this spring that I think will be easy to work into your wardrobe. You ready? Here they go.

http://look-of-the-day.fabsugar.com/Street-Style-All-White-Outfit-8823338

1. White with neutrals

-This is a twist on the all white trend that often pops up in the spring. If you’re not a fan of wearing lots of white (like yours truly), then you can do this trend by wearing mainly white with a touch of neutral to add some color to your outfit.

2. Big, bright floral prints

-I am interested to try this trend myself. I’m not a fan of floral prints, but these large prints are a lot less frilly and girly and much more bold.

3. Menswear inspired pieces

-This has been a trend for the past few seasons and it is being carried over into Spring. Since it is holding strong, I thought it was time to delve into it. It’s basically taking tailored pieces that look like menswear (slacks, jackets, buttoned down shirts, etc) and incorporating them into your outfits.

4. Shorts

-I know this may seem like a no-brainer but there are many of you who cease to wear shorts after a certain point in your life. Some women do it as they age and others do it if they gain weight. However, there are so many varieties of shorts out there that we all can do this trend and look great.

5. Wedge shoes

-I am a big fan of wedges. They’re an easy way to wear heels without the balance issues that can happen with skinny heels. Plus, they tend to be comfortable and cute.

6. Big bangles

-This is an easy trend because bangles are everywhere. I’ve seen them at different price points and different colors. I always feel a touch more stylish when I accent my outfit with a great pair of bangles.

Stay tuned for tips on how to wear each of these trends!
