At Home Facials-guest post from Simplistic Chic

I follow some really cool people on twitter and just the other day, I got a link to this really cool blog post about homemade facials. I enjoyed reading it so much that I wanted to share it with you guys. I got it from this super cute blog, Simplistic Chic and I encourage you to check it out further after you read this post. It’s a great blog about living well naturally, which is something I’m a big fan of.
About a year ago I began getting professional facials and I was instantly addicted! My skin was very soft and smooth and was beginning to look clearer. After that I was having them done every week. However, at $55 to $100 a week I could no longer afford to get them after I became unemployed.
I have since been looking for facial recipes I can do at home that are comparable (or somewhat close) to the professional glycolic peels and facials. After scouring the internet, I found the following recipes:
Honey Facial * (do not use this if you are allergic to eggs!)
1 tablespoon honey
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon olive oil
Beat the egg yoke with a fork, add the oil and blend well. Add the honey using a spoon that you have rinsed with hot water and blend well again. Smear it all over your face with your fingers, except do not cover your eyes. Leave it on your face for 15 minutes, then rinse it off.
Cucumber Facial
1 cucumber
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon witch hazel (you can buy this in any drug store)
1 egg white, beaten with an electric beater until fluffy.
Peel the cucumber and run it through a blender or a food processor. Pour the cucumber pulp into a colander or strainer and force it through, catching the liquid that comes out in a bowl underneath. Combine the cucumber liquid with the lemon juice and the witch hazel. Stir it and add the beaten egg white gently. Put it on your face and leave it on for 15 to 25 minutes, then rinse off.
Blemished Skin Mask
1 Tomato, ripe, chopped
1 tsp Lemon juice
1 T Instant style oatmeal or old-fashioned rolled oats
Blend everything until just combined. Apply to skin, making sure the mixture is thick enough to stay on blemished areas: cheeks, forehead, or chin. If necessary, add a bit more oatmeal to thicken the mask. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then scrub it off with a clean washcloth dipped in warm water.
I think I will try the Blemished Skin Mask first. In addition to my weekly at-home steam treatments, I plan on getting to my goal of having beautiful skin again! Wish me luck!!
Okay, this might be a silly question, but I am going to ask it anyway. Do you think this facial treatment would work on men as well as women? I imagine it would, but like some men I am hesitant to believe that some treatments for women are strong enough for a man. Lol. If you think it is maybe I will give it a try. I have some acne that I have tried many other ways to try to remove and I would like to try some natural at-home ways if possible. Thanks.

Oh no, that is not a silly question. It has definitely been said that men and women’s skin isn’t always the same. However, I think these facial treatments are worth trying for both men and women. Since the ingredients are all natural, you can buy them and give them a shot. If they don’t work, you can eat them! You may just have to leave it on longer. One treatment mentioned at the end of the article was steaming your face. I would definitely suggest you trying that and maybe combining it with one of the masks couldn’t hurt.
Just be careful and make sure you don’t over do it. Make sure you’re using ingredients that won’t irritate your skin. Do a patch test with every concoction to make sure it won’t irritate your skin.
Good luck!
Having facials, pedicures etc is a heavenly feeling and I know your face usually looks absolutely amazing once your pores have absorded all that rich moisture and have closed. But you are right these facial skin treatments are expensive. Why not find a beauty college in your area. They usually offer really cheap prices and sometimes free beauty treatments since the students need the practice.

I agree. My first facial ever was at a beauty college. It was done so well that I would definitely go back there and get more.
Thanks for the infos! Your blog actually assisted me.
That is an awfully astounding column you’ve posted. Thanks a lot for that a fantastically amazing post
